Marknet Technology introduced the Panasonic Toughbook to Telstra as an alternate solution to their pocket PC units being used by field engineers. During Telstra’s testing and selection process, Marknet assisted in making certain the Toughbook meet Telstra’s precise requirements.
According to Alan Olden, Head of Metro Services, Telstra:
Panasonic’s Toughbook is a hardware solution that will enchance capabilities of Telstra’s field engineers for a significantly longer period of time than a standard laptop or pocket PC.
Telstra’s analysis of technology solutions has shown that by investing in ruggedised hardware, we can expect a lower failure rate in the field, which results in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) in the long term through increased productivity and uptime.
As an integration partner of Panasonic, Marknet Technology individually staged and configured 3,500 Panasonic Toughbook units to Telstra requirements. Each unit is customized with an integrated CDMA1x modem and Telstra software allowing Telstra field engineers access even in the most remove locations in Australia.
The roll-out represents the largest ever installation of ruggedised notebooks in the Australian telecommunication industry.
To date there have been more than 4,000 units deployed to Telstra field engineers. Marknet Technology continues to provide Telstra with integration, warranty repair and produce sales support.
